Light Sculpture nº1
Installation view.
Light Sculpture nº1 sends a beam of light through five magnifying lenses aligned along a five-metre axis. The lenses concentrate and stretch the beam, shaping light and giving it a physical presence in space.
The work appears and disappears depending on where the viewer stands. From one position, there may seem to be almost nothing there; from another, the beam becomes fully dense and visible in the air. A slight movement of the body is enough for the sculpture to emerge.
A shutter regulates the width and intensity of the beam, while a fine mist of atomized water makes its trajectory visible. The combination of elements gives light a temporary density, turning the conditions of perception into the material of the work.
